TOPIC: Herbs through Thyme: Common Herb’s uses as Food, Medicine and in Beauty

DESCRIPTION: This presentation will be about medicine systems, and major herbs used by different populations, and how varying historical uses for herbs are scientifically proven. Focus will also be given to common kitchen herbs that are also useful in helping combat common winter ailments ranging from colds and flu to depression and poor circulation.

BIO: Jennifer’s interest in herbs sparked around eight years ago, when she found an herbal tea making book at the library, ever since, her interest, knowledge, and experience has been growing exponentially. Jennifer has volunteered on herbal farms, makes her own herbal teas, salves, and beauty products and was an herbalist in her college community. Most recently, Jennifer completed an herbalism thesis with interviews from Rosemary Gladstar, Matthew Wood and Jane Hawley Stevens, as well as, an internship with United Plant Savers in Ohio. Jennifer is currently a writer in the herbal community publishing in various newsletters and news outlets, as well as blogging for Mother Earth News.

DESCRIPTION: Postpartum 411 answers the big question-What Now? We talk about what to expect during your hospital stay, bonding techniques, soothing your baby, sleep patterns, how mom can best heal, postpartum mood disorders and how dad fits in to the mix.

Baby Wearing: Showing parents how to use baby wrapping to soothe baby and what version is best for them.

Infant choking prevention and modified infant CPR training: (no certification given) This helps parents feel at ease.

Care Seat Safety: We go over the nuts and bolts of car seat safety. Many parents don't know if their car seats are installed properly.

BIO: Dr. Daniel Barrett has been in private practice 19 years as clinic director of Vibrant Life Center, delivering wellness to families in the Twin Cities. He holds a doctorate in chiropractic, a doctorate in medicine and spends many hours doing workshops for business and community as well as running a busy family wellness center teaching nutrition, exercise and detoxification programs. He's held seminars for Ramsey County, Minnesota Dept of Transportation, City of Maplewood, Marathon Oil, Twin Cities Harley Davidson and more.

BIO: Dr. Jason Gerard is an international speaker. He holds a bachelors in Human Biology, a doctorate in chiropractic and is a member of the Wellness Advisory Council caring for members of USA Wrestling, USA Judo and USA Weighlifting. He is the founder of Lakewoods Chiropractic.

BIO: Dr. Ochsendorf is the author of The Ultimate Hockey Player. He lectures on the subjects of nutrition, exercise, wellness, family health, sports-related injuries and rehabilitation. He performed his undergraduate sports medicine training at Minnesota State University Moorhead where he obtained his board certification as an athletic trainer (ATC). He supervised the primary care of over 150 Division II athletes by performing injury evaluation, rehabilitation, prevention, and emergent field care. In addition to board certified chiropractic sports practitioner (CCSP), his ATC and CCSP, he’s completed courses with the Titleist Performance Institute and has earned his certification as a golf fitness instructor. Dr. Ochsendorf is currently the team chiropractor for multiple sports teams and high schools, and has served on the USA Track and Field Team medical staff in Flagstaff Arizona. He is active in the community as a care provider for area families and corporations and volunteers his time leading focus groups in nutrition, exercise, time and stress management.

TOPIC: Roots Groove/ Roots Fusion Yoga and Dance Fitness

DESCRIPTION: Roots Grove is a cardio reggae dance fitness class that incorporates elements of dancehall and hip hop. Roots Fusion is a yoga/ pilates fusion that consists of vinyasa flow yoga/ pilates and thai chi. All classes are done with a live DJ and custom choreography. Fun fitness clothes are worn by the instructor and makes this class feel more like a party than another fitness class.

Amanda Marx: Amanda brings compassion and a depth of knowledge to care giving for families. She has extensive experience caring for infants and families in a variety of settings. She has over 10 years of childcare experience and specializes in breastfeeding education. She is professionally trained as a certified postpartum doula. She is also a pediatric, labor and delivery, and postpartum nurse.

Lisa Erbes: Lisa holds a BA in Psychology with a focus on child development and behavior therapy. She is a DONA certified birth doula since 2006, and is also a Lamaze Certified Childbirth Educator since 2007, teaching childbirth, postpartum and breastfeeding classes since January 2006 for a major Twin Cities Metro hospital system ( Fairview, if you choose to name them!). She is the mother of two girls, born in 2001 and 2003, and loves to read and exercise and loves history and politics. Her passion is helping new mothers learn about their bodies and their babies!

 

 

 

 

Tory Kielas-Jensen: Tory brings a wealth of experience in working with multiples and breastfeeding moms. She’s a postpartum doula, and makes educating new moms a top priority. Tory’s gentle disposition calms the most frazzled families, and coworkers marvel at her “sixth sense” in assessing client needs.
